About the Department of Building and Construction (BC)

The Department is uniquely placed in Hong Kong for its multidisciplinary staff force that includes specialists in building services engineering, construction engineering, structural engineering, building science, construction management and surveying, all within one academic unit.

Our undergraduate programmes are professional discipline specific and aim to serve the construction community by preparing graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute towards the development of the built environment. Building on these, we offer two taught Masters, one in Construction Management and the other in Building Engineering.

The Department has now more than fifty MPhil and PhD students. Furthermore, an Engineering Doctorate programme that includes both taught and research elements is launched in 2005. This programme shall be ideal for experienced engineer to integrate theory and practice.

Our research and consultancy activities can broadly be identified in four main areas: Construction Management and Surveying; Intelligent Built Environment; Environment and Services; and Structure and Material. These are supported by excellent departmental facilities. It is our belief that these activities underpin and enhance the academic programmes.
