As the economy of Hong Kong grows and changes so does the demand for infrastructure development, design and construction of new buildings and maintenance and refurbishment of existing buildings. The demand on the resources of the Civil and Building Industry is also likely to increase as the government and the private sector continue to demand high quality project works be completed on time and for a reasonable price. In addition to operations within Hong Kong itself, the industry can expect to play an increasing role in adjacent regions of the People's Republic of China, particularly in the field of construction project management, under the implementation of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) between the two regions.
It is to cater for these increases in demand for trained manpower, equipped with up-to-date skills, that the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering has developed its present programmes to provide students with a good understanding of the building process relevant to particular professions in the industry.
